12 year old Solomona Hamilton has qualified for State Championships in Australia. The young swimmer began his swimming career in Samoa with the Tanifa O Le Vai swim club and has hit major milestones each year since 2014. While Solomona now lives in Canberra with his siblings, who also swim, and his parents who had to move to Australia for work commitments, Solomona still participates in Samoa Development Squad programmes and competitions whenever he gets the chance. After a successful camp and competition with Team Samoa in late January at the AMC event in Auckland, Solomona has ramped up his training and his new LCM results are testimony to his hard work and dedication to the sport of swimming. He has now qualified for the NSW Junior State Age Championships in March 30-31 2019 for 50m free, 50m back & 100m free. In a recent interview, Solomona shares some things about swimming and his dreams too.

Favourite events: 50m free, 50m fly, 100m free, 200m free, 100m back, 200m back, 200m IM.
Favourite training set/drills: Sprint sets
Favourite food: Pasta! (in spaghetti bolognaise , lasagne & creamy pasta)
Why you like swimming: Because it’s fun & I enjoy competing. I also get to hang out with some cool people.
Best memory of swimming: i) Winning my first medal at my first competition in Fiji, 2015. ii) Getting under 30seconds in my 50m freestyle in the NSW Country Championships last week.
Goal in the future for swimming: To represent Samoa in the Olympics

Samoa Swimming is ecstatic to see junior swimmers really embrace the palpable passion for swimming. Solomona is starting a successful season and his efforts are definitely an inspiration for his younger siblings and junior Samoan swimmers!
