Brandon Schuster today beat his personal best time by finishing with a time of 25.53 seconds in the Men`s 50m freestyle. Swimming for Samoa at the Tolcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow, Brandon`s reaction to beating his p.b was, “I`m delighted to have beaten my p.b, I think that my other races here in here Glasgow have helped me to gain valuable experience and have helped me to beat my p.b.’ Brandon still recognises that there is room for improvement. One area the he highlighted for improvement was his breathing pattern. Brandon also pulled off a fantastic achievement today by setting a new national age record for a 16 year old in the 50m freestyle. Brandon smashed the seven year old record, previously set by Chanel Silao at 26.39 at the South Pacific Games in 2007. Brandon has now set the new record to beat at 25.53 seconds.
Evelina Afoa was also in action at the Swimming today at Tolcross. She was competing in the 50m backstroke. Evelina finished 7th in her heat with a time of 32.28 seconds which was also her qualifying time. Evelina is only 15 years old and can use the experience of competing at a Commonwealth Games for the first time to develop her swimming and take it into her future competitions. Evelina still holds the national record of 32.00 seconds which she broke at Oceania 2014, the previous record had remained unbroken for 15 years.
